2011 – A year in the life

This year seems to have sped past as usual at a very fast pace. I always get reflective as a new year approaches and think about what did I do and what happened.

Local food heroes: Moss Valley Fine Meats

I discovered Moss Valley Fine Meats early this year via Twitter and by visiting their stall at local Farmers markets.

The family run business is led by husband and wife team Stephen and Karen Thompson of Povey Farm.  Stephen is the fourth generation of the family to take the reins, which is a sizeable undertaking, as the farm covers 240 acres and has a herd of 220 sows.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall in conversation

When I saw that Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall was coming to Sheffield as part of the Off the Shelf Festival I got tickets straightaway. I am a fan of Hugh’s unfussy cooking which utilises quality seasonal ingredients. I have a few of his books and I enjoy watching the idyllic ‘River Cottage’ programmes. If I ever win the lottery, I’ve already promised myself my own version of River Cottage where I can grow plenty of vegetables and rear animals.
