Abbeydale Brewery: beer and dessert matching

Abbeydale Brewery have been doing some exciting and interesting brewing in the last 18 months with experimental new flavours featuring little twists. In the current version of Unbeliever, you can enjoy the sour tang of grapefruit and a colourful pink hue from hibiscus.

I went down to the brewery to see the hard work that goes into making the beer and to hear from Sales and Marketing Director, Dan, about what they are brewing, how they work and what we can look forward to.

I also got to take away a few beers to try and I set myself a challenge to match one of the ales with a recipe. To take a step away from perhaps the conventional choices, I chose to match the sour, Unbeliever with Shrikhand, a traditional creamy Indian dessert made using yoghurt, cardamom and saffron. The recipe was from Sophie Grigson’s book ‘Spices’.

It worked as a balancing contrast of sweet and sour, and I just love the colour of the Unbeliever too, it will brighten up any evening of drinks.
